Today's storytelling.
Have no fear. And from the universal comms team a song from Blue Oyster Cult "Dont fear the reaper" I can't remember if we've had this song before to be honest, it popped straight into my head as the cards turned. https://youtu.be/PVn6b9QQZeM Looking at the lyrics I notice the lines... "All our times have come here but now they're gone. Seasons don't fear the reaper, nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are" The seasons don't fear change, they flow with it, trees don't try to hang on to their leaves in autumn, they simply let go, knowing that new growth will surely follow. A message for us to flow with change rather than try to hang on to the old, or push against the transition to the new perhaps ? Maybe, we're being urged to simply let go and allow the winds of change to bring in new growth. Let's see how this shows up in our cards today ... Our first card today is the 2 of swords ( swords representative of the air element and of thought and intellect) Blindfolded without a clear vision for the way ahead , her thoughts tug her in every direction, her noisy inner dialogue adding to her confusion, not knowing which direction to take. Today I'm drawn to the sand falling from her grasp and the phrase "the sands of time" comes to mind. The phrase "sands of time" is from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It describes the mark that great people leave on history. Time is like evershifting sand, it is never at a standstill. Yet in those mires of sand, some people leave their mark, and are remembered for their actions and achievements. Perhaps this poses a question to us, what mark will we leave ? I'm also drawn to the tattoo on her forearm, the air element symbol with the cross of two flags.... the words "cross keys" drop in... Crossed keys represent the metaphorical keys of Saint Peter and symbolise the keys of heaven, or the keys of the kingdom of Heaven. Perhaps we are at a gateway ? I'm also drawn to the crossroads on the ground behind our subject. Just as though it demonstrates 'X marks the spot', a phrase that means this is the exact location, for the thing that we are looking for can be found exactly here. Interestingly, it was also a term used historically in the army by firing squads, x being pinned to the heart of those put before the squad. A pretty grim thought to include here, yet metaphorically perhaps it points us to a death of old habits and ways of being in order that a rebirth and resurrection of our lives can emerge. Our second card seems to follow this storyline as it's 13 Death and rebirth. Alot jumps out at me today in this card, the starburst and the words that follow " hitch your wagon to a star" Meaning, always aspire to do great things; Do not set pessimistic goals. (From Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay, "Civilization.") Suggesting that as a Civilization we focus on the positive possibilities for our collective future, rather than mourn the negative losses of our historical past. I'm also aware of the scythe today, I've never noticed it in this particular imagery of this major arcana card before. In ancient times, the scythe was the emblem of the God Saturn, which represented the nature of the cycles of time. The scythe symbolised not only impermanence, but the nature of the life cycle, this tool of the harvest depicts the necessity of death for the renewal of life. When I write this I'm referring to this purely from a metaphorical standpoint, in terms of our ways of living and being as humans in relationship with one another and with nature. I'm of course not making reference to the awful, tragic and painful losses of the pandemic . If we can see beyond the veil; as yet possibly an inexplicable or concealed place in the future, that we cannot yet conceive or vision ( a little like our woman in the 2 of swords at the beginning of our post) Then we might be able to imagine what is possible beyond the mysteries of our current state, perhaps we can glimpse a greater existence for ourselves after this unprecidented chapter in our history. Another song comes to mind here The Belle Stars and " Sign of the times". https://youtu.be/lyV-GWhvZoY I think the title says it all really . Our final card today is the 4 of wands ( wands representative of the fire element and action) We see two young women in Festival surroundings. They are dancing and flowing with the energy and the song. These lyrics come to mind.... "Like a flower bending in the breeze Bend with me, sway with ease"... Suggesting once more that we are called to flow rather than push against now. Yet more song lyrics flow... Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand Vanished from my hand Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping ( a throw back maybe to our first card ) My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet I have no one to meet And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.... A reference to our recent isolation and the weariness of the ongoing challenges perhaps? This card suggests that once we get to the other side of this experience, there will be time of celebration .... I'm not saying it's showing us a full scale Glastonbury festival in the card, but it is showing us the joy of connection and ease of flow returning. The woman are still energetically connected to the recent past and so it will take a little more time and space ( social distancing maybe?) to reach the new world..... But it is coming. #makingadifference #lifeisbeautiful
